WHAT HAPPENS IF WE LOSE THE COLOUR?

or the light?

how do we design without it?

OK, WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN IF YOU LOSE THE COLOUR? Look for February. IF YOU CANT FIND THAT? Feel around for April. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS? Then you might be in the right spot, January.

GAUSSIAN SPLAT TEST_01

How does 3D Gaussian Splatting work?

Gaussian Splatting represents a 3D scene as millions of particles, or 3D gaussians, each of which are shaped like an ellipsoid (a 3D ellipse), with decreasing opacity as the distance from the center of each 3D gaussian increases.

Each 3D gaussian has its own unique parameters such as 3D position, orientation, 3D scale, opacity, and view-dependent color. To render these particles efficiently, they are converted into 2D space (“splatted”), and then organized/sorted for performant rendering.

Another tool for the toolbox. A very important one, but still another tool. How can we use it to inspire more of this month’s project though? Besides scanning everything in sight, like I would imagine people did when they first got their hands on a digital camera. Also what the fuck even is this month’s project?

Ellipsoid ‘Aura Farming’

Before ‘Splatting’ all this ‘Gaussian’ everywhere I was on the cusp of a philosophical breakthrough. Let’s go back to that and see… what was it that I was meant to do if I can’t find madness again? Or was it colour? I can’t remember now I wasn’t paying attention…

It happened again… we ran out of time… I don’t even have a visual to justify it. Not very ‘chaotic’ is it? All I could think about was what would happen if I stopped logging these projects monthly. Or even better, I stopped keeping track of them through time at all. There’s a lot of space to keep, and space to capture.

Is a broken watch closer to a bracelet? Or the most accurate time keeping tool in existence?

What happens if we take this oddly strict time system I have set up for myself, remove it entirely as a means of design sequencing and focus solely on space. It kind of was part of this months project as well.

It might help me find the colour again too! Wait… we went from trying to find colour, to losing time as well… shit.

Hopefully this works.

And I obviously had a visual the whole ti..

‘Looking for February’

HOW IS THIS DESIGN PROCESS AT ALL?

TO CREATE SPACE IS TO INTERFERE WITH LIGHT, TO INTERFERE WITH LIGHT IS TO INTERFERE WITH COLOUR.

What has time done to my statement above? Beside hinder it??

Should I continue to try and find colour? Or will figuring out how time effects how quickly I find it be better?

And which one does typing all this out lean towards? Probably a waste of time, I bet you rather look at the visual I posted instead.

Or Maybe not? How much do I need to type before the story can be created in your own mind? With your own reflux?

We might find everything with that kind of typing. That would be something special

I may have called you out too soon. I’m starting to see the mission now. After reading March I’m starting to see how you’re trying to piece this together. Clearly your problem is with time this month, it’s ok mine is too. I haven’t said much since February, and March was ok I guess… Then I ended up here on the last day of your “Monthly projects”. A greyscale month-less mess of clues to inspire a world out of colour and lost for light.

It’s very easy to piece together your own story, to justify your own madness and to come up with your own creative sauce. What’s harder is to bring it out in the people around you, is this what this is all about honey? Or you still trying to light your own way?

It seems we both have this bad habit of leaving things to the last minute don’t we.

Motion? All of this and you took “Motion” as the catalyst for finding colour? Honey… motion without direction is as good as time without space. To rely solely on motion to feed your colour inspiration means you will never find the light. You said it yourself. “OK, WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN IF YOU LOSE THE COLOUR? Look for February. IF YOU CANT FIND THAT? Feel around for April. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS? Then you might be in the right spot, January.”

It’s in the observation of your space as you motion through it. Pay fucking attention to what is going on, to the snail you could have avoided stepping on by accident when running into your home on a rainy day, to the caustics on the depressed glass of water left on your table after a night out, to the overcast days where light appears in the shadows, the colour in your loved ones eyes, the tint in your favourite sunglasses, the threads in your favourite shirt or the blue in your shiny Poliwhirl card.

You’re lucky the Adobe stock jingle was added to that video, or I would have had to blindfold you to see.
